With guidance from God, encouragement from his family and some smart promotional decisions, Jay Foreman has been able to reach thousands with his books.

Foreman’s reasons for writing were simple enough: fulfill a long-time goal and pass along God’s message.

And in one of his latest books, Still Learning, he took to those tasks using humor, juxtaposing funny experiences from his life with Bible stories that share similar lessons.

“I wanted to write a book that showed how the situations we find ourselves in today, and the Biblical applications we can take away from them, are not that different than they were thousands of years ago,” said Foreman.

Recently, he was kind enough to tell us more about his story as an author as well as share some advice for other writers.

FOREMAN ON …
Finding Your Voice

“Writing skits and plays at church really helped me to find my voice in writing, understand who exactly my audience is at any given time, and make sure I relate to them in a way that they can appreciate.”

Reaching Readers

“I have held numerous book signings at various businesses, including bookstores, libraries, restaurants, salons and even banks. I also partner with the local schools, and other speaking engagements have contributed to my success as well.”

“There will be peaks and valleys in reaching people with your books, but persistence and faith are the keys.”

Staying Inspired To Write

“My inspiration for writing comes from God. Sometimes I write and have no idea where the story is going or how it’s going to end, but the words keep flowing from me onto the paper. It sometimes feels like I’m reading a book instead of writing one. It’s very humbling to be a part of something bigger than myself.”
